The Emotional Abuse That Gets Done

Have you ever heard these statements:
*“It isn’t just about you.”
*“It’s not about what you feel, it’s about what the other person feels.”

These statements are nothing more than emotional abuse and manipulation. Nothing is one-sided, both people’s feelings matter and compromise is the only thing that can be done.

When people say these statements it’s an invalidation of one’s own feelings. It’s a common social norm to make those who are wanting their feelings to be respected to make them as if they are crazy and wrong.

No person deserves this treatment and I honestly wish it would stop. I should know. I have spent my whole life questioning if my feelings are valid. I’ve had people censor me and try to silence me, try to tell me to move on and let go. I’ve heard it my whole life and it’s made me miserable.

My opinion? Don’t let people do this to you. Stand your ground and don’t budge. No person should have their feelings invalidated and nothing is one-sided, fight for the compromise you want, fight for what you want and don’t give up. Don’t go down a path that will make you miserable.
