Dating Apps Need to Go
Dating apps maybe great to meet people but they can also be home to scammers and at worst times even dangerous or deadly.
Recently the dating app Grindr has been the home of murders among LGBT+ in July of this year one guy was murdered while another was critically injured from a Grindr hookup that was actually a robbery. Another incident is where three 18 year old boys were jailed for plotting to use the app to meet men and rob them. Even three boys between the ages of 16 and 17 used the app to rob and kidnap a gay man. A homophobe even used the app to kill gay men. There have been even more incidents that you can find here.
While I am certain people will say that this can happen on any social media site the fact that this is happening on Grindr is very scary and the fact that Grindr has had minors using the app alone shows that these apps are very dangerous to use.
And if this can happen on Grindr how long before it starts happening on apps like Tinder or E-Harmony, etc.
Truth be told are these apps worth the risk of being robbed, kidnapped or murdered? It really is time to shut such apps down and go back to meeting people the old fashioned way, in public where people can see you, granted even that isn’t always safe but still it is really dangerous to use such apps like this and for the safety of all I would advise against using such apps for your own personal safety.
Update 12/15/2019 7:23 am:
Another Grindr incident has accord two men plead guilty to using the app to target gay men so they could hold them against their will and force them to withdraw cash from their bank account.
